WHAT WAS A HAPPY FAMILY by Sam Houston Theatre student Jaden Harris.
Sam Houston Theatre exposes our students to the stage and beyond.
We offer students multiple performance opportunities throughout the school year. Productions include in-class performances, mainstage productions, and UIL One Act Play contest. Students also have the opportunity to produce their own works on Stage 2002.
Students may now hone their talents by studying to become triple-threats. We now offer a Musical Theatre course to benefit students who want to own the stage when acting, singing, and dancing.
Our students study various forms of acting styles in a variety of classes. Acting techniques are explored in our Theatre I, Advanced Theatre, Theatre Production, and Musical Theatre courses. Experience is offered on Stage 2002, our Mainstage Auditorium, and our soon to be Blackbox Theatre.
Thanks in part to our recent renovations, students now have access to technology that will help them excel in Technical Theatre. Students work with modern equipment and instruments including LED lights, moving lights, digital sound systems and much more. When our renovations are complete, we will have a new Black Box Theatre and Scene Shop.
Throughout the year, our students attend workshops that cover an array of topics including Auditioning, Movement, Stage Combat, Characterization, etc. In the picture above, students participated in an Animation Workshop by Bruce W. Smith, the creator and executive producer of the Disney+ Original series, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, and numerous Disney animated feature films.
Thanks to the support of various sponsors, organizations, and theaters, students are offered opportunities to see live theatre and film on our stage and at community and professional theaters.
This is an early rehearsal clip of our production of David's Mother.
